The
Crown Jewels Chapter started in 2002 as the first chapter in the state of
Idaho. It is based in Boise, the state capital. Its name was
chosen because Idaho is the Gem State and Boise is in an area commonly known
as the Treasure Valley. Our chapter has around forty active members, and is
in contact with many more ladies of the commonwealth. We are a diverse
group, both in age and background, and we are especially proud of our mother
and daughter members.
Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month (except for July,
August & November) at the Greek Orthodox Church Hall in Boise. After the
official business is conducted we socialize over a cup of tea and homemade
refreshments, and of course there's always a door prize. Each August we have an
informal get together at a local restaurant and in November we celebrate Guy
Fawkes & Bonfire Night.
Our main annual fundraiser is an Afternoon Tea.
This started life in 2002 as a Garden Party in honor of the Queen's Golden
Jubilee. The event has evolved over the years into a highly popular occasion
and tickets always sell out fast. We turn our indoor venue into an English
Tea Room and serve a full afternoon tea at beautifully laid tables. There is
always light
musical entertainment to accompany tea and a raffle.
Besides supporting the Western District Home, we choose a variety of local
charities to support each year; they are usually ones that benefit women
and children. The beneficiaries selected for this year's tea are the
City Light Home
for Women and Children and
The Idaho Foodbank. We
regularly adopt a family at Christmas time from
The Women's and Children's Alliance.
