The Crown Jewels Chapter

The Crown of State, Tower of LondonThe Crown Jewels Chapter started in 2002 as the first chapter in the state of Idaho. It is based in Boise, the state capital. Its name was chosen because Idaho is the Gem State and Boise is in an area commonly known as the Treasure Valley.

Our chapter has over forty active members, and is in contact with many more ladies of the commonwealth. We are a diverse group, both in age and background, and we are especially proud of our mother and daughter members.

Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month (except for July, August & November) at the Greek Orthodox Church Hall in Boise. After the official business is conducted we socialize over a cup of tea and homemade refreshments, and of course there's always a door prize. In July we have a family picnic in a local park, complete with cricket and croquet. In August we have an informal get together at a local restaurant and in November we celebrate Guy Fawkes & Bonfire Night.

Our main annual fundraiser is an Afternoon Tea, usually held in September This started life in 2002 as a Garden Party in honor of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. The event has evolved over the years into a highly popular occasion and tickets always sell out fast. We turn our indoor venue into an English Tea Room and serve a full afternoon tea at beautifully laid tables, provide musical entertainment and hold a raffle. In 2006 we introduced a 'Tea for Two' photograph booth and sold pictures of guests seated at this special table with its charming cottage garden back drop. As an ongoing effort we have published a cookbook, "A Treasury of Recipes".

Besides supporting the Western District Home, we choose a local charity to support each year. The Women's and Children's Alliance in Boise, was selected again to benefit from our fundraising efforts this year. The last two years, besides making a financial contribution, we have sponsored a family from the WCA and filled their Christmas wish list.
